I am a professor at Park University located in Parkville, Missouri a small community in Platte County bordering on the Missouri River north of Kansas City. Parkville, while an entity in itself, is contiguous to Kansas City, Missouri.
Park University was founded in 1875 by Col. George S. Park who was also the founder of Parkville and its original Postmaster. Park donated the land on which the University currently sits for the purpose of building an institution of higher learning. Park University has an ongoing relationship with the Universite' de Basse Normandie part of which allows for the University to send a Park University faculty member to UniCaen (as it is often abbreviated) for a summer session in the foreign languages program. This year, I had the good fortune to be chosen from among the faculty to attend the three week program of study of the French language, history and culture. This blog is the day by day accounting of the visit and the program.
